The spot: Calambrone

Calambrone is in the province of Pisa, right next to the port of Livorno, just south of the spot. It’s easy to reach by motorway: on the Genoa–Livorno motorway (A12) take the Livorno exit, then the second exit ramp following signs for the port. You’ll end up on a road heading straight for the sea; at the end, a bridge over the Scolmatore canal tells you you’ve arrived in Calambrone.

The great thing about this spot is that it works in every wind direction. Easterly winds (tramontana, grecale, levante) come in quite well and give great flat-water sessions. The best wind is still the libeccio (south-west), which blows side-onshore and can reach 50 knots. In summer, the spot gets thermal maestrale (north-west) days, perfect for beginners and wing foilers.
